NFL and NFL Referees Association Reach Agreement, Replacement Ref Stands Behind His Call

NFL replacement ref  and Bank of America vice president of Small Business , Lance Easley, who made the controversial call on Monday night between the Packers and the Seahawks…stands behind his decision.

Replacement Ref Stands Behind Call

Easley, who is from Santa Maria, California had never reffed in a game above junior college level.  Despite all the conflict…Easley is adamant that the call he made which resulted in a Seahawks a 14-12 win over the Packers  “was the correct call…and he  “can’t believe he’s being vilified because he didn’t do anything wrong.”

It is Easley’s understanding that…”You have to not only have the ball but have either 2 feet or a body part on the ground, and that never happened.”  The Packers player who allegedly intercepted the ball never had singular possession because.  Easley told sources that  ” this was clearly a case of simultaneous possession — meaning the catch goes to the offensive player — adding, “Put any other official who knows the rules and they would make the same call.”

The 24 yard “Hail Mary” pass by Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, was ruled a touchdown by Golden Tate rather than an  interception by Packers second year back-up safety  M.D. Jennings.

During contract negotiations  between  The National Football League and NFL Referees Association…replacement refs were hired to officiate games.

One of the former replacement officials was… Craig Ochoa, a former official in  the “Lingerie Football League.  Ochoa was fired by the league  because of “several poorly called games.”

  • Marc Harrod, umpire: Harrod is a police officer in Corpus Christi, Texas.  He reportedly is the same “Mike Harrod” who runs the Twitter feed for the Corpus Christi Chapter of Football Officials.
  • Mike Peek, head linesman:  Peek served as a replacement official during the brief 2001 NFL referee lockout.
  • Richard Simmons, field judge who not to be mistaken with the fitness guru Richard Simmons who many say could have done a better job.   Simmons is a Texas high school official
The NFL  and the Referees Association, who were at odds with the league over salary, retirement benefits and operational issues. They reached a settlement and will return to work on Thursday.

Green Bay Mayor James Schmitt Sends Letter to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell

Seahawk PackersGreen Bay Mayor James Schmitt is not a happy camper after last nights Green Bay loss to the Seahawks and the controversial last minute call rookie refs.

The controversy began on the final play there was eleven seconds left on the scoreboard and the Packers were ahead 12-7.   Russell Wilson launched a 24-yard pass into a scrum in the end zone…Seahawks wide receiver Golden Tate  pushed Packers cornerback Sam Shields to the ground which cleared his way for takeoff .  With Shields on the ground Tate eliminated one of the four defensive from going airborne.  Therefore, there were only three Packer defenders covering two Seahawk wide receivers.

In retaliation…Schmitt, who’s also a shareholder of the publicly owned Green Bay Packers has fired off a not so nice letter to  NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.
In the letter  Schmitt expresses his disappointment and displeasure with the game ending call for the Packers and Seahawks game.
He also expresses his concerns about the NFL’s present labor dispute with referees is threatening the Packers on-field success and may in turn effect the economy in Green Bay and place his town in “financial jeopardy.”

In the letter Schmitt  also claims that under qualified  refs are threatening the “elite status” of the NFL.

“last night’s game creates a negative perception on the NFL brand, which in turn jeopardizes the Packers’ chance for success as well as the potential to negatively affect our local economy.”

The NFL issued the following statement: “While the ball is in the air, Tate can be seen shoving Green Bay cornerback Sam Shields to the ground. This should have been a penalty for offensive pass interference, which would have ended the game. It was not called and is not reviewable in instant replay.”

The replay of the play shows Packers’  wide receiver Greg Jennings who appeared to jump higher than Tate and was first to have both of his hands on the ball.  Tate and Jennings then both went down in the end zone…and they both had their hands on the ball…

According to sources…”When the players hit the ground in the end zone, the officials determined that both Tate and Jennings had possession of the ball. Under the rule for simultaneous catch, the ball belongs to Tate, the offensive player. The result of the play was a touchdown.”

Final Score:  ω Seahawks 14, Packers 12

Super Bowl 2011

Among Final Four, Packers Tabbed As Favorites

For most of the NFL season, every expert, fan, handicapper, media personality and casual water cooler guy expected the New England Patriots to be a factor on the Super Bowl spread. As a matter of fact, all season long they have been the favorites.

As it turns out, the Patriots were upset in stunning fashion last Sunday by the New York Jets, which means we’re left with a new frontrunner among the final four: the Green Bay Packers.

To the surprise of some, the Packers are now the leading candidate to win the Super Bowl according to the Las Vegas experts. It’s a surprise because they are the No. 6 seed in the NFC playoff tree and they have to head on the road to face the No. 2 seed in the conference this weekend. Beyond that, there is a potential matchup looming with the No. 2 seed in the other conference in the Super Bowl, the Pittsburgh Steelers, yet the Packers still find themselves in the driver’s seat.

Much of that has to do with the fact how they have looked through their first two playoff games. Many people felt that the Michael Vick-led Philadelphia Eagles would be a tough out, but the Packers took care of business. Then they faced the No. 1 seeded Atlanta Falcons in the Georgia Dome, where the Falcons had only lost once this season. The result was the most lopsided playoff decision we’ve seen yet as the Packers throttled the Falcons 48-21.

That win has resonated in the minds of many experts – especially the site of the Packers offense walking up and down the field at will on offense and not even having to use their punter once.

There’s still a lot of football to be plaid but the Cheeseheads are the big cheese for now, so to speak. We’ll see if it stays that way after this weekend’s action.

NFL Quarterback Rankings

If you were putting together a team today, who would you want as the leader of your franchise? I have listed from 32 to 1, my ranking of all of the NFL quarterbacks. 32. Vince Young – Titans. Head case. Doesn’t work at his craft. Not respected in the huddle.

5 IN A ROW – WILL THERE BE 6 ??

At this point, there can be no argument about which conference is the best one in college football. The SEC has been the best for years and at this point, there is no one to challenge them. Don’t get me wrong, teams will pop up from time to time.

A TWIST ON THE NFL PLAYOFFS

Last night after the season ended, the playoff schedule was posted. Although there are some intriguing match ups, I started thinking about what could be done differently to make it even more interesting. During the season this year there was a lot of talk about expanding the schedule to 18 games – just what we […]
