Shaun Suisham

The Cincinnati Bengals made their choice of who will replace injured kicker Mike Nugent for the remainder of the season — and it’s not Jeff Reed.

Instead, Cincinnati (2-7) goes with another Ohio State alum in Aaron Pettrey, who was signed by the team Tuesday. On the same day, the Pittsburgh Steelers made Reed available after cutting the veteran and signing Shaun Suisham.

Pettrey, an undrafted rookie, will make his NFL debut Sunday against the Buffalo Bills (1-8).  Read full stroy and more here

Shaun Suisham’s Apology

Posted Dec 6th 2009

There’s a lot of blame being spread around in the wake of this latest fourth-quarter collapse, and Shaun Suisham is taking a ton of it. It’s hard to argue with; he’s the kicker, he missed what should’ve been a gimme kick to push the Redskins’ lead to 10 with 1:52 left. The game would be tied 33 seconds later, and it was all downhill from there.

In the locker room after the game, long snapper Ethan Albright was claiming responsibility for the missed kick, but Suisham was having none of it. Standing in front of his locker wearing a sweater and looking like he might actually cry, he addressed an enormous crowd of media.”I missed a kick,” he said flatly, when asked if there was a problem with the snap or hold. “It’s … it’s about as difficult as it gets, you know? You have the New Orleans Saints come in here, the guys play an unbelievable game, and … I sure am disappointed. I wish I could get back out there. But the game’s over and we lost.”  Read full story and more here

Michael Vick Philadelphia Eagles

In the 40-year history of Monday Night Football, never before had a team scored as many points as the Philadelphia Eagles did Monday.

Led by Michael Vick’s four touchdowns passing and two touchdowns rushing, the Eagles beat the Washington Redskins, 59-28 at FedExField. The Eagles racked up 592 total yards, their most in franchise history. It was the first game in NFL history with a 59-28 score.

Vick completed all but eight passes for 333 yards and rushed for 80 yards. It was Vick’s third career game with four touchdown passes and he became just the third player in NFL history with 300 passing yards, four passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns.  Read full story and more here

FROM THE ELIAS SPORTS BUREAU: Michael Vick’s 88-yard touchdown pass to DeSean Jackson on the first play from scrimmage was the longest TD pass in the opening minute of a game in just over 41 years, since Roman Gabriel threw a 93-yard touchdown to Wendell Tucker in the opening minute of a 41–30 Rams win over the 49ers on Nov. 9, 1969.

I’ve been asked, and before it’s all over I’ll probably be asked again, what was my involvement in Michael Vick coming to the Eagles. Here’s what I know:

Michael and I have known each other since the time I was asked to host him on his visit to Syracuse University. Anybody that’s ever been through that knows that current college athletes are asked to spend time with possible recruits who are similar or share something in common (play the same position, come from the same part of the country, etc.). During that time, I had a chance to get to know Michael pretty well. And, although he decided to go to Virginia Tech, we kept in touch and remained friends. read full story here
