The Kentucky Derby May 02, 2009

Story Highlights: The beginning of the quest for the triple crown, “The Kentucky Derby” will take place in Louisville, Kentucky this weekend.

For those of you who visit our site on a regular basis, you probably know that we are huge fans of the equine industry, show jumping and horse racing.   This time of the year is very exciting for those who enjoy the sport.  The Kentucky Derby often referred to as The Run For The Roses which is the first leg of three races in the quest for the Triple Crown and it will take place this Saturday, May 2, 2009 in Louisville, Kentucky.

The favorite in this race is “I Want Revenge,” who will be ridden by jockey Joe Talamo. “I Want Revenge” has won two wins racing on a dirt surface and one win in six starts on synthetic surfaces.

The pair made  a sensational come from behind to win the Wood Memorial in April.  NBC Horse racing analysts  and hall of fame jockey, Gary Stevens told sources that they did the “impossible” when they made his comeback.  Stevens described him as a horse with a lot of adversity however he told sources that he will be challenged when he takes to the track at this years 135th Kentucky Derby.

Although it’s exciting time in the world of horse racing,  must we not forget the 21 polo horses [] that died last week from a tragic mistake on behalf of a Florida pharmacy who compounded a nutritional supplement which was mixed improperly.  Our hearts go out to all those effected by the huge loss in the world of polo.

So to all those who will be racing in this weeks Kentucky Derby, best of luck.  There have been several tragedies in the world of horse racing in the past few years.  The most memorable was America’s favorite race horse Barbaro ♦see our tribute to Barbaro []♦  who broke his hind leg in the Preakness which is the second race for the triple crown. Barbaro has been best described as the 2006 Kentucky Derby winner who fought for survival.  He was  a symbol of strength, courage and comfort  and, more than anything else, a source of inspiration.

Barbaro’s fight ended when he had to be euthanize Jan. 29th, 2006 and to this day his memories live on in the hearts of all those who love racing.  It was on that day that the world lost a hero!

May this years quest for the Triple Crown Be A Safe Journey!
