College Football 2014-Recapping Week 12…The Convicts Escape…Again!

Ok, I am going to admit it, I am no different than anyone else outside of the penitentiary called FSU. I am rooting for anyone that plays FSU. That is what the 2014 College Football season has become. Everyone, and I mean everyone outside of Tallahassee, wants FSU to go down. I truly think that the college football playoff committee is hoping for an FSU loss to once and for all, get them out of the picture. We are sick and tired of the  accusations, lack of discipline, out of control behavior, and total disregard of the law that is allowed to go on down there. Not only is FSU undefeated on the field, they are undefeated in the court room…7-0. 7 arrests and 0 convictions! Talk about turning a blind eye to the law! This is a win at all cost program and Jimbo has lost all respect and credibility. The Winston case got conveniently postponed until after the season – not enough time for his lawyer to prepare his case. It’s only been 2 years! And the latest debacle involving a hit and run accident that is being swept under the table. Hey Barney, did you see anything? Nope, good, let’s go get some doughnuts and coffee! Good luck this weekend kids, we gotta beat dem boys down in Miami!

Let’s get out of the courtroom and back on to the playing field where we belong. Yesterday was just a normal day in the world of college football. Upsets, OT games, last second field goals, poor use of time management, miraculous comebacks, dropped interceptions that lead to eventual scores, bad officiating, and unbelievable performances. One of the big questions for me yesterday was, how where some of the previous week’s big winners going to respond? Would Ohio State have a hangover from beating Michigan State? Would TCU have a hangover from beating Kansas State? How about Arizona State and their thrashing of ND? Answers please, OSU escapes at Minnesota by winning 31-24, TCU comes back to edge lowly Kansas 34-30, and Arizona goes to Oregon State and losses 35-27. How about lowly Northwestern going to ND ( ND stands for NO DEFENSE ) and upsetting the Irish 43-40 in OT? How about ( predictable ) Clemson going to Hotlanta and laying an egg versus Georgia Tech? I think Clemson had to finish with their third string water boy as the QB with hard luck Watson going down with a knee injury and Stoudt throwing more pic 6’s that completions! And poor Duke losing at home to Virginia Tech 17-16! Coach C sure could have used some of Coach K’s offense! Has Auburn quit or is Georgia that good? The Bulldogs smashed the Tigers 34-7 in Todd Gurley’s return. Stay tuned…Gurley hurt his knee. Of course, the game of the day was #1 Mississippi State going to ‘Bama. The Tide flexed their muscle and beat the Bulldogs 25-20. Jack, I mean Zack, I mean Dak Prescott had 3 pics in ‘Bama territory – OUCH! Just when the Talking Heads said there may not be a team from the SEC in the Final Four, if ‘Bama wins out and Mississippi State wins out, we may get 2 SEC teams in!!!

College Football 2014…Recapping Week 8…The Convicts Escape!

College Football Week 2

So often we have, on paper at least, great match ups between 2 powerful teams. The hype and build up during the week is almost non-stop and the game turns out to be a dud or a blowout.

Football QuoteThe potential was there once again as the Fighting Irish and Florida State Seminoles met for a #2 versus a #5 battle to see who stays in the playoff hunt and who may exit the race. It not only lived up the billing but exceeded it! No doubt, it is an ESPN Classic. Let’s be honest, you either LOVE ND or you HATE ND, there is no middle ground. I talked with so many ND haters this week and to a person, they were all pulling for the Irish. Everyone is so sick and tired of the garbage surrounding FSU’s QB situation. If you or I were accused of sexual misconduct, stealing crab legs, getting paid for autograph signings, or violating the schools conduct policy, we would be locked up and never see the light of day again! Apparently, not at FSU and especially if your name is Jameis Winston.

Six Heisman Finalist Named

Heisman Trophy winner 2013 FSU Quarterback Jameis Winston

UPDATE: Jameis Wintson is the winner of the 2013 Heisman Trophy.  Winston was the favorite to win the Heisman on Saturday night. He’s had a magical freshman season on the field, leading Florida State to the national championship. But of course he’s had to face sexual assault allegations off it.

College Football 2013….What have we learned so far??

College Football Highlights

With 2 weeks now in the books, some interesting things are starting to unfold in the world of college football. We knew going into the season that it College Football Week Twocould be one of the most memorable seasons of all time. I think we are on schedule for the most controversial BCS National Championship game of all time.

Alabama controls the SEC right now and a win over A&M on Saturday will give them a leg up on the field. All that stands in their way after that is a heated rivalry game with LSU and then the SEC Championship game. Oregon is headed for a showdown with Stanford to probably have a shot at the Tide. Clemson could run the table by beating FSU and South Carolina and stake their claim to be in the big game. Louisville will go undefeated and want a piece of someone. The Cardinal’s play a weak schedule and will be 25++point favorites for the rest of the year. Ohio State has only 1 competitive game all year ( at Michigan in the last game of the year ) and will be screaming for respect and a shot in the title game. Both Louisville and Ohio State play such a weak schedule and in the end, it will cost them a shot at the title.

So, what are the most intriguing match-ups for the BCS Championship right now? Alabama vs. Oregon would give us flash and dash versus strength and power. Two contrasting styles. A rookie coach vs. the most polished coach in the sport today. How about Alabama against Stanford? This would be a dog fight. A 20-17 defensive struggle. What if Oregon played Clemson for it all? The scoreboard would explode – fireworks being shot off every 20 seconds! In the end we could have a 55-53 game. What if it were Texas A&M and Oregon? How about Georgia versus FSU? What if the title game featured Michigan and LSU? So many scenarios, so many games left to play…and it is only week 2!!

Game of the year… PART 1. The hype has begun for this week’s first game of the year. Alabama goes to Texas A&M for a revenge game. Last year Johnny Football burst into the national spotlight by pulling off the improbable upset over the Tide. Coach Saban has been drooling for this game since then and with a week off last week, you can bet the Crimson Tide will ROLL into Aggie land with fire in their eyes!

All the Talking Heads thought the Texas Longhorns might be on their way back into the national scene. I guess BYU forgot to read the press clippings and put an old fashion butt whipping on them! Welcome back to mediocrity Texas!

Cudos to the ACC. They are shaping up to be the second best conference in the land. Clemson upsets Georgia to kick off the year and The “U” trips Florida on Saturday. Clemson only has FSU left to play in conference ( and South Carolina in the season ending game ) and should destroy everyone else. Miami has just FSU and Va. Tech remaining in conference play. FSU has the toughest path to the conference title by having to play Miami and Clemson ( and the Gators ). Looks like a banner year for the ACC! They may have a shot at the BCS title game as well as several other big bowl games.

Here is an interesting scenario. Michigan and Ohio State should both be undefeated going into the season ending ( 11/30 ) clash. Most likely, they will meet agian the following week ( 12/7 ) in the Big 10 Championship game!

This is hard to believe. In the SEC East, Tennessee and Missouri are undefeated.  South Carolina, Florida, and Georgia all have 1 loss! Think that is going to last much longer?

For all you Notre Dame haters out there, I guess you won’t have to worry about them playing for the title this year after losing to the Wolverines on Saturday night. The funny thing is that they may be a better team this year and will probably end up lose 2 games this season!

Several weeks ago I said that Odell Beckham of LSU has a shot at the Heisman Trophy this year. Before it is given to Braxton ( I get hurt every year ) Miller, or Johnny ( show me the money ) Manziel, or Teddy ( I deserve better than playing against Division 3 schools ) Bridgewater, or Tajh ( I hope I don’t have to face Jadeveon Clowney ) Boyd,  take a look at what Odell has done so far. I think you may just change your vote! Tyrann who??????????

South Florida Upsets Florida State

Highlights USF Football

The undefeated South Florida Bulls entered Saturday’s competition against Florida State well aware that the Seminoles would be fired up on their home turf.

While the Seminoles sought to prove their worth among the nation’s elite, their opponents were simply trying to justify their football program within their state. With senior quarterback Matt Grothe out with a knee injury, the Bulls looked to redshirt freshman B.J. Daniels for help. Daniels, who is coincidentally a Tallahassee native, was stellar in his debut performance. Rushing for 126 yards and throwing two touchdownpasses, Daniels led his squad to a 17-7 victory at No. 18 Florida State.  Read full story here
