Tony Romo Re-injured left Collarbone Out for the Season

Tony Romo UPDATE: Coach Jason Garrett said after Thursday’s 33-14 loss to the Carolina Panthers that X-ray results on Romo’s injured left collarbone – the same one the quarterback broke in Week 2 – were inconclusive.

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo  return from a broken collarbone lasted less than two games.

While X-rays on Romo’s re-injured left collarbone were inconclusive Thursday and the Cowboys have planned more tests for Friday, the quarterback is “done for the season,” a source close to Romo told ESPN.

Romo will have a CT scan on Friday after he was forced from Thursday’s 33-14 loss to the Carolina Panthers on the final play of the third quarter.

Dallas Cowboys Franchise Release Michael Sam

Michael Sam Released CowboysMichael Sam the first gay man to be drafted in the NFL has been released from the Dallas Cowboys practice squad.

Sam,  was the 249th overall pick  selected by the Rams in the seventh round of the 2014 NFL Draft .

After failing to make the Rams 53 man roster…he was released and picked up by the Dallas Cowboys franchise.  The news of his release was announced today.

Sam issue a statement in which he said… “I want to think the Jones family and the entire Cowboys organization for their opportunity, as well as my friends, family, teammates, and fans for their support. While this is disappointing, I will take the lessons I learned here in Dallas and continue to fight for an opportunity to prove that I can play every Sunday.

Sam attended the University of Missouri, where he played college football for the Missouri Tigers football team for four years.

Michael Sam Joins Cowboys Pratice SquadDefensive end, Michael Sam, who became the first openly gay player in the NFL, when he was picked up by the St. Louis Rams in the seventh round of the NFL, has found a new home in the league.

Sam was the 249th of 256 players selected!

Sam, who played collegiate ball at  Missouri  was dropped by the Rams in their final roster cut last over the weekend.

According to the latest sports news reports, Sam will join the Cowboys practice squad. Coach Jason Garrett said Wednesday that the league’s first openly gay player will be added to the practice roster.

NOTE:  Members of the practice squad are paid a minimum of $6,300 per week, a fraction of the minimum $420,000 rookie salary.

“We just want to give him a chance to come in and help our football team,” Garrett said. “That’s where our attention is [football]. What people say outside the organization is up to them.”

Dallas Cowboys Defensive Coordinator Rob Ryan Fired

Rob Ryan FiredRob Ryan, the defensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys…and brother of Rex Ryan, was informed  on Tuesday he would that he will not be returning to run the team’s defense in 2013-14. 

Ryan had one year remaining on a three-year contract.

Ryan was on vacation in the Turks and Caicos Islands when he got the call and was told he wouldn’t return.

 

Even though Jets defensive coordinator Mike Pettine is out, the Jets are sticking with their plan to promote Dennis Thurman from defensive backs coach to defensive coordinator.

Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said in a statement….”I want to express my appreciation to Rob for all of his efforts and contributions to the Cowboys over the past two years.” At this time, the decision has been made to move forward in a different direction philosophically on defense. I have an immense amount of respect for Rob as a person and as a football coach and I wish him and his family the very best.”
