Butler University Mascot Blue II Dies

It is with heavy hearts that we report to you that Butler’s beloved mascot, Butler Blue II, has passed away due to complications from congestive heart failure.

Blue II, Butler's mascot for most of the past decade, died due to complications from heart disease. He was 9. Butler University students, fans and administration are morning the loss of  their schools mascot.  The sweater-wearing English Bulldog who walked softly but carried a big bone.

Blue II, the English Bulldog mascot passed away Saturday. Blue II suffered from dilated cardiomyopathy, which affects both the right and left sides of the heart.

Blues II’s owners were Michael Kaltenmark, a Butler graduate and his wife Tiffany.

Blue II was one of the most recognizable of all school mascots was 9-years-old or 63-years-old in “dog years.”

He appeared at every Butler men’s basketball game… and traveling like a rock star aboard Blue II, the 9-year-old former Butler mascot, has died from congestive heart failure.  the team’s chartered jet during the Final Four basketball championships in 2010 and 2011.

In May Blue II retired and handed down his collar to his younger brother, Blue III, AKA Trip in an official changing of the collar ceremony took place on Mar. 9.

Trip  a 1-year-old bulldog  is said to have “plenty of energy and eagerness to carry the torch.”

Blue II is survived by Mike Kaltenmark, his wife Tiffany and  4,700 Butler University students.

North Carolina

Final Score…  Kentucky 76 -North Carolina 69

The 4th  ranked Kentucky Wildcats defeated the 2nd ranked University of North Carolina Blue Devils securing their position in the Final Four which begins on April 02.  They will face UConn in the tournaments second game which is scheduled for 8:49 p.m.  and will be aired on CBS.

The three other teams that have  advanced to the final round include 11th ranked VCU, UConn  who is ranked 3rd and Butler.

March Madness will end in Houston as the four teams compete to become the 2011 National Champions.  This years tournament will end with a lot of memorable events such as the firing of University of Tennessee’s head basketball coach Bruce Pearl and the upsetting  first round loss to 8th ranked Michigan.  UT athletic director Mike Hamilton,  shocked the world of sports by stating in an interview, the day before the game…that Pearl’s fate with the 9th ranked team would be determined after the tournament.  Many have associated this Hamilton’s (bad Timing) comment with the huge loss.

One of the most  notable upsets  was VCU knocking off #1 Kansas  in the Elite Eight semi finals and one of the most exciting was the Butler/Florida game which went into overtime.  Butler a much smaller University showed the Gator’s that “size really doesn’t matter.  Final Score:  Butler Bulldogs 74-71 win over Florida.

Tennessee’s huge 75-45 loss to Michigan may be the most embarrassing…especially if you a fan of the Volunteers!
