Aaron Hernandez Found Dead in Prison Cell Legal Team Shocked
Former New England Patriots star Aaron Hernandez who was convicted of first-degree murder in the Odin Lloyd case, was found dead in his prison cell, having apparently committed suicide on April 19,2017.
“Hernandez, 27, was found hanging in his cell by correction officers at approximately 3:05 a.m.”, a statement by Department of Correction spokesman Christopher M. Fallon.
Hernandez was serving a life in prison without the possibility of parole at the Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center in Lancaster, Massachusetts.
According to the Boston Herald, State police are probing the suicide and the legal team who represented Hernandez are vowing its own investigation.
“The family and legal team is shocked and surprised at the news of Aaron’s death,” Hernandez’s defense lawyer, Jose Baez, who had just won his acquittal on double-murder charges on Friday, said in a statement this morning. “There were no conversations or correspondence from Aaron to his family or legal team that would have indicated anything like this was possible. Aaron was looking forward to an opportunity for a second chance to prove his innocence. Those who love and care about him are heartbroken and determined to find the truth surrounding his untimely death. We request that authorities conduct a transparent and thorough investigation.”
Baez added: “The Baez Law Firm will participate in its own examination into this tragic event and update the media and public on its findings when they become available.” Continue reading full story here
