Miss USA Nia Sanchez has fueled speculation that she is a beauty queen carpetbagger after she was unable to name the capital of her home state Nevada.

Sanchez will represent the USA at Miss Universe 2014 where she will compete to succeed Gabriela Isler of Venezuela.

Sanchez represented Nevada at Miss USA 2014 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where she was crowned as the winner by outgoing titleholder Erin Brady of Connecticut on June 8, 2014.Sanchez beat out 50 other contestants from all the states and the District of Columbia on Sunday night for the title of 63rd Miss USA.  However, their is pageant viewers and critics that she is what many refer to as a carpetbagger.  By this we mean, a contestant that   meets minimum residency requirements in order to compete for the crown without actually living in the state she represented.

Sanchez, 25, had competed for the Miss California crown in 2010, 2011 and 2012,three times before competing and winning  the Miss Nevada crown.

In the Miss California USA 2010 Pageant, Nia Sanchez was 2nd runner-up out of 133 contestants as Miss Citrus Valley USA.  A title she held from November 20–22, 2009.

According to a source, “She never actually moved to Nevada, but continued to work at Disney and live in California, setting up some minimum paper trail to appear like she was in Nevada and allow her to compete.”

Sanchez, appeared on a MTV radio talk show this week and when ask what the capital of Nevada was…she said “Oh oh ahhh, ummm, oh my gosh,” she stammered before being rescued by the show’s host, who gave her the answer: “Carson City.”

“Thank you I was gonna say that, I was like, that one DJ host on MTV, back in the day, his name, that’s how I always remembered it,” she said.

Carson Daly, yeah,” the show’s co-host chimed in.

In an interview with FOX News… Sanchez claimed that she had lived in the state almost 18 months before she won the title, much longer than the minimum six months required.  She added  “Las Vegas is my home.  I have a house there with a friend.”
