Marine Sergeant Dies After Winning Parachuting Trip On ‘Ellen’
When Cherilyn McGraw won a parachuting trip to Australia on “Ellen” last January she never dreamed that her “trip of a lifetime” would have such a tragic ending.
Cherilyn and her husband, 33-year-old Brandon McGraw, a U.S. Marine Gunnery Sergeant took their much anticipated trip last week.
On December 13, the two of them went up in the same plane owned by Euroa Skydive. Cherilyn made a tandem jump. Brandon an experienced diver with numerous dives under his belt followed with a solo jump.
According to an employee from the skydiving school located in Melbourne” just before Brandon landed, his parachute turned sharply left, then right and crashed to the ground.”
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
McGraw was assigned to Company G, 2d Marine Special Operations Battalion, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command, Camp Lejeune, N.C.
McGraw deployed to both Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. His personal decorations include (3) Navy Achievement Medal, (2) Combat Action Ribbon, (3) Good Conduct Medal, (2) National Defense Medal, (1) Afghanistan Campaign Medal, (2) Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terror Service Medal, (7) Sea Service Deployment Ribbon and the NATO International Security Assistance Forces Medal.
