Saints Head Coach Sean Peyton Suspended

It is being called a “historic” act of discipline by sports analyst throughout the country…after  hearing the news  that New Orleans Saints Head Coach Sean Peyton has been suspended for the entire 2012 season.

The announcement of the stiff reprimands was made by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell earlier today.

Along with Peyton…former Saints defensive coach Gregg Williams (now with the Saint Louis Rams)  has also be suspended indefinitely, assistant head coach Joe Vitt…who was suspended without pay for the first six regular season games and the franchises General Manager Mickey Loomis  was suspended without pay for the first eight regular season games.

The suspension is a result of violations of the teams bounty program against opposing players.  The Saints paid bonuses to players for knocking rival opponents out of the game, according to the NFL.

The league found that the cash pool reached $50,000 or more during the 2009 playoffs.  Players were paid $1,500 for a “knockout” and $1,000 for a “cart-off.”  Payouts doubled  or tripled  during the playoffs.

The franchise has also received a stiff fine of $500,000 and must forfeit  their 2nd-round draft picks in both the 2012 and 2013 seasons.
