Ocracoke Island Evacuated
In preparation for Hurricane Irene….visitors and residents along the 16 mile stretch of the North Carolina coast known as Ocracoke Island have been evacuated.
They were ask to leave their homes Thursday morning as the area prepares for the Category 3 storm. In a statement…Gov. Beverly Perdue said “It’s a standard precaution,” the governor said. “We want folks [in eastern North Carolina] to take this storm seriously and to get prepared.”
Hurricane Irene hit Puerto Rico and other parts of the Caribbean and is expected to hit the East Coast as early as Saturday. You can track the path of the storm and get updates at the Capital Weather Gang.
