Prince Harry Charity Polo Event

Prince Harry, 24 made his first formal engagement in the United States since the death of his mother Diana former Princess of Wales who died in a tragic car accident while in London in August 1977.

Harry took  part in the second annual Veuve Clicquot Manhattan Polo Classic which took place Saturday, May 30th event took place on New York’s Governors Island. Prince Harry saddled up to show the yanks how the brits play polo.

The Veuve Clicquot Manhattan Polo Classic was a fundraiser for Sentebale, the charity that Harry has set up with Prince Seeiso of Lesotho to help poor children and AIDS orphans in that small African nation surrounded by South Africa.

Prince Seeiso and I both lost our mothers when we were very young,” Harry said in brief remarks before the match.

We set up Sentebale in their memory, and because my mother loved this city, it makes this occasion all the more poignant for me.”

Prince Harry’s team, named after the charity,  defeated the opposing Black Watch team 6-5 after the dashing young Prince got an assist for the winning goal in the last seconds, drawing the biggest cheer of the afternoon.

The match drew a star filled crowd that included celebrities such as Kate Hudson, LL Cool J., and Madonna just to name a few.
